About Nomads

Nomads: A Desert Love Story

We are an English and Indian couple, Alex and Aladin, and we welcome you to our peaceful desert haven.

Alex has been coming to Jaisalmer for the past 20 years and has gained an extensive knowledge of the area and culture that she enjoys sharing. Aladin comes from a farming family in a small village in the heart of the Thar desert, and learnt the tourist trade working under a Austrian guy for 8 years. We both understand the needs of travellers, and try our best to meet all your requirements to make your stay as comfortable hassle free and enjoyable as possible.

After some years running the highly-successful Nomads Guesthouse in Jaisalmer, we started building a retreat in the Thar desert to share with people our love and passion for desert life and culture.

When we first arrived it was a patch of desert, with just a single tree. We built a couple of huts and a kitchen in the traditional style and started a vegetable garden, and started taking our guests out to experience one or more nights in the total tranquillity of the Thar Desert.

As you can see we have been working hard, and now we have somewhere very special where we can welcome guests.

During 2018 we realised that it was the desert where we wanted to be, so in early 2019 we said farewell to the guesthouse and are now based full time at the retreat.

In recent months we have added a new kitchen and are making further improvements to the farm on an ongoing basis.

Music & Dance

Alex has been dancing for many years. She taught circle dancing in the UK, and in Rajasthan spent many years studying under the world-famous Rajasthani folk dancer Harish. The magical desert environment is ideal for the musicians and dancers who often come to visit the retreat and practise their arts.

Traditional Desert Huts

Nomads Desert Retreat has three private huts built in the traditional fashion by local craftsmen using local materials. Each hut has windows, a lockable door and twin beds.

Facilities & Amenities

The retreat has a range of facilities. There is a kitchen which guests can use and a shared bathroom. Outside there are shaded sitting areas where you can relax and watch the world go (very) slowly by.

Out & About

From the retreat you can explore the desert and visit the local village. We can also arrange jeep trips to the surrounding area where you can visit some of the fascinating places that the Thar desert holds.
