Nomads Desert Retreat
A quiet haven and retreat in the total tranquillity of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan, India
Join us at our home and experience the peace and simplicity of desert life
We welcome our guests to come and share our home, and experience one or more nights in the total tranquility of the Thar Desert. Nomads Desert Retreat is a tranquil haven from the lively hustle and bustle of Indian towns and travel, where you can relax and unwind and experience the simplicity of desert life.
We offer free transport from Jaisalmer, from where we will take you to Nomads, located 5km from the nearest village in a natural landscape of wide open spaces.
Nomads Desert Retreat comprises three huts (jhodpri) with decorated cob walls and grass roofs, all built in the traditional style by local craftsmen using locally-sourced, eco-friendly natural materials. There is a shared bathroom, and a kitchen where we cook on a wood stove, using where possible our own organically grown vegetables. We provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, and of course drinking water.
Spend your day doing simply nothing, relaxing in quiet shady surroundings, or explore the timeless desert with the silence ringing in your ears, observing desert wildlife and maybe meeting local people. Then in the evening you can chill under a starry night sky, maybe swapping travellers’ tales around a fire.
We are also able to arrange a variety of excursions, such as camel safaris, jeep tours, and village tour which includes going to a weavers’ village.
Traditional Desert Huts
Nomads Desert Retreat has three private huts built in the traditional fashion by local craftsmen using local materials. Each hut has windows, a lockable door and twin beds.
Facilities & Amenities
The retreat has a range of facilities. There is a kitchen which guests can use and a shared bathroom. Outside there are shaded sitting areas where you can relax and watch the world go (very) slowly by.
About Us
We are an English and Indian couple, Alex and Aladin. After running Nomads Guesthouse in Jaisalmer, we started building a home in the Thar desert to share our love and passion for desert life and culture.
